PART 2: That Time We Read a Bunch of Dark Monster Romance and Said, “LET’S DO IT”
We’d been bouncing around the idea of writing this style of “roleplaying OP hero” for years, but never really landed on a concept that grabbed us … until we started reading romantasy, and eventually dark monster romance.
Suddenly, everything came together.
For all their significant differences, there are some key similarities between men’s and women’s romance: male readers generally like their MCs to be protective, female readers like their MCs to feel safe and protected; male readers often like weak-to-strong progression fantasy storylines, female readers like stories about MCs finding their strength; and everyone likes an MC who, once they reach their height, absolutely kicks ass (if for varying values of ass).
Those are all things we can write, and have written under this pen name.
However, the most significant difference between men’s and women’s romance is the spice level.
Men’s romance tends to stay pretty vanilla. Women’s romance, however? It has no limits. It’s unhinged.
And, after all the amusement we took from monster romance, we absolutely wanted to write an unhinged dark monster romance progression fantasy.
Succubus Corruption was the first version of that.
In it, Tassa is an elf adventurer making her way in a harsh human world, when her party betrays her and leaves her for dead in a dungeon. Little does she know, a greater power has been watching her, and is impressed with what she sees.
The terrifyingly sensual succubus Nix has an offer for her: Trade her weakness for strength. Become a demoness, claim her revenge, and help her rebuild the once-great Infernal Empire.
