PART 3: That Time We Had To Include Content Warnings and Create a Whole New Pen Name ‘Cause THINGS GOT WILD
Succubus Corruption is unlike anything we’ve ever written under this pen name.
Seriously, it’s a sapphic monster romantasy with multiple male and female love interests, futanari, huge insertions, extreme creampies, inflation, tentacles, bondage, fisting, dubcon, sexually-charged body horror, and a succubus revenge-fucking guy to within an inch of his life.
Which is to say, it’s a lot darker and wilder than our usual stuff.
It also meant there was no way we’d publish it formally under the happy, light, comfort-read Edie Skye pen name.
However, I’d been planning to launch a separate women’s romance pen name for years.
Initially I’d planned to do that after finishing the current round of Titan Mage series, but the spontaneous creation of Succubus Corruption changed that.
Even so, it takes more than a solid story to sell a book, and certain elements of that first draft rendered it very niche and hard to market to a wide enough audience.
If we were going to go through the effort of creating a new pen name, we wanted it to have appeal at least as wide as this one, and that involved expanding the novella and making changes that would align it with the tropes of a more mainstream romance subgenre–in this case, dark monster romance.
What resulted is the novel-length Into the Arms of the Demon (Dark Infernals #1), which will formally kick off the Arcadia Skye pen name in March.
The audiobook has already been licensed by Royal Guard Publishing and will begin recording this month, narrated by Amber Hartt and Daryl Mayfield! We also already have the first book’s cover illustration from Prima Vera and are most of the way through the first draft (and cover) of Book 2!
Into the Arms of the Demon is currently posting on Patreon–but despite its hard-to-market niche, Succubus Corruption was still a solid story on its own, so we published it to completion earlier!
Now, given the genre differences, we’d debated whether it was worth posting at all–our Patrons are there for harem fantasy adventure, after all–but here’s the thing:
Though parts are very different from what you’re accustomed to from Edie Skye books, especially in terms of dark content, a lot of the core stuff that you enjoy is still there:
Namely, that the romantic couples are absolute, supportive, positive, empowering ride-or-dies for each other. They’re just a lil’ kinkier. (Okay, a lot kinkier.) If badasses in love are what you enjoy about Edie Skye, then you’ll probably enjoy the Arcadia Skye pen name, too. Just know that it’s a whole lot wilder.
